temporarily pause your Shopify store

Shopify Vacation Mode

What to do with your online store while on vacation

For many of you, when you’re not working, you’re not making money. As one-woman shows, it can be difficult to justify taking a vacation. Self-care is essential, and if you need to get away, you shouldn’t be afraid. Sometimes we have reasons that we have to step away temporarily, such as for a family emergency. What should you do with your store? You have a few options available:

  1. Pause Your Shopify Store – Pausing your store disables the checkout but keeps your store online and accessible to visitors. Pausing is best when you know that you will not be able to ship for some time. Your monthly fee will be reduced to $14/month
  2. Password Protect Your Store – Password protection means that, without a password, customers will not be able to access your site or view your products. This is considered a short-term solution when you will only be away for a short period.
  3. Extend Your Ship Times – For those who do not want to pause sales and lapse your income, another solution is to post a notice on your home page, announcement bar, and or on your product pages that your shipping times are temporarily extended. An example could be that instead of shipping within two days per your shipping policy, share with customers that you will ship products within seven days. Make sure that you calculate when you will be able to return and consider setting a specific date. Example: “Note: Shipping times extended. All shipping will resume on 7/5/2020.” This solution allows you to continue to receive orders while you are traveling. You might also want to consider updating your automatic email during this time to inform customers. Make money while you travel!
  4. Drop shippers – Consider hiring a virtual assistant to move things along while you are out.
