You are on your way to becoming your own boss and what comes with that is getting to choose your own store name. The name of your store is what your customers will first experience as they stumble upon your site or social media page. It will also be the first chance to experience your store’s personality, so you want to choose something that you feel will represent your brand.
You may already know exactly what you want to name your store. There may be a name that brings special meaning into your life. For some, it can be as simple as using your own name or initials. Including your name shows that you are the boss of your life and you represent your boutique, which is very powerful. For others, they choose the name or initials of loved ones. The initials could be from your daughter, your sister, your mother, best friend, a loved one who has passed away or even a combination of any of these. I’ve also heard of naming your store after your pet! If you still haven’t identified something that brings up good feelings that you feel strongly about, maybe think back to a memory from your childhood. The street your grandmother grew up on or a favorite destination.
I recently watched an interview with Bella Hadid where she shared her obsession with butterflies. If she were ever to open an online store, I wouldn’t be surprised if she came up with a clever way to incorporate butterflies or something related to butterflies into the name.
If you are stuck, you could use an online name generator to get the juices flowing. I’ll link one at the bottom of the article, but a quick google search will show many.
Open an Online Clothing Store – Topic 2 Details How to Choose a Name for Your Boutique:
Some things to consider when choosing your store name:
Choose something unique – you don’t want to worry about someone else sharing your store name and confusing your customers
Domain name & social media accounts availability – we will be walking through purchasing a domain and setting up your business social media accounts, but it is not too early to go ahead and check to make sure your ideal name is available.
Make sure it is on brand and doesn’t mislead your customers regarding the types of products you sell – if you have a passion for horses find a way to make it clear that you sell clothes whether that means including the phrase in the name – example Mystical Pony Clothing Boutique.
Easily understood and pronounced by strangers – if your name is a play on words make sure your customers can easily pronounce it and don’t take the wrong idea from it. Also, remember to keep it relatively short, so it doesn’t come across as a tongue twister
Make sure it is something you are proud of and love sharing with others! Changing your name down the line is a hassle legally and confuses your customers. Ensure your name is something you will be excited to promote 15 years from now.
